3B: Seven Weeks at Sea

3B: Opus 1
3B: Opus 2

Visit post 3A, where I describe how I’ll soon make drawings over the yellow number 7 I discovered during creative exploration. The 7 is made of thread (yarn) haphazardly placed on a carpeted wall. I “found” the number 7 shape and fleshed out the observation. I wondered what the 7 could mean.

To find out what the 7 meant, I placed 6 panes of glass in front of it and began to draw with chalk markers on the glass, one pane at a time. It made me smile to have such a wild way to explore the idea of “layers”, attentional zoom, and pareidolia through art. It’s like playing with Legos when I was a kid — I’m having a blast.

I think a lot about how creative rituals can help to ground us. I’ve been developing zones in this room that allow me to explore creative rituals. The layers of glass are one way I do that.

I envision a future in which creative rituals are appreciated deeply by many people individually and, perhaps, in a community of practice. How beautiful would that be?
